In this week’s article, we want to expand on a response received after our last posting and to highlight the need for critical illness cover. Unfortunately, 1 in 2 of us will be diagnosed with a critical illness during our lifetime, if you don’t have critical illness cover in place, it can be difficult, if not impossible to get it after a diagnosis, even if a complete recovery has been made.
Life & Critical illness insurance is usually always underwritten taking into account past or present health conditions. The more conditions disclosed, the higher the risk of contracting some form of illness in the future. The insurance company will then evaluate the risk and decide whether to decline, load premiums to cover the increased risk or decline cover altogether.
It has often been the thinking – ‘it won’t happen to me’ but the worrying thing is we all know someone who has been diagnosed with a critical illness, sometimes with catastrophic consequences, such as loss of income and possibly the loss of the family home.
A response to our last article really says it all;
“This article is very close to home, I had cancer and it really affected me. I hope you see through the shroud of trolling, do what’s right for you at the end of the day. I can’t get cover now as the cancer is in remission, no one will touch me with a barge pole! ”
