How to appear on page 1 of Google searches

“To Google” was officially added to the dictionary as a verb in 2006 but we had been googling our answers for years before then.

The Yellow Pages are almost defunct with most of us reaching for our smartphone or laptop to find our answers on the search engine. Customers and businesses turn to Google to locate their nearest services whether it be a new hairdresser, local plumber or a copywriter. If you have a website, are listed on Google My Business or in a directory then this is great news, you’ll appear in related searches. Though the competition can sometimes outweigh you in the ranks, leaving your business on pages further down the line. And how often do we choose the options on page 3 or even page 10?

So how can you make sure you are the one that’s found first?

Step in Google Adwords!

This pay-per-click advertising platform lets you pay for the top positions on Google search pages. Be seen by customers at the very moment that they’re searching on Google for the things you offer. And only pay when they click to visit your website or call you. You can attract more customers by advertising locally or globally depending on your market and stick to a budget you control.

How to optimise your Adwords Campaigns.

  1. Make sure to drive your customers to relevant pages of your website. Don’t send them to your homepage, this is too generic and your potential customers may not know where to find the information they need.
  2. Consider the users journey from the moment they search. Would they be looking for an easy booking or buying process and are contact details easily accessible? By making this journey as simple as possible, it is less likely that customers will drop off before choosing your products or services.
  3. Track your conversions. Make sure you know where your clicks are going. It’s no good if loads of people are clicking on your ads then dropping off immediately. Here you can investigate where any issues may lie.
  4. Follow up! Some customers will still be in the research stage so make sure to follow up with some remarketing campaigns and coax your potential customers into buyers.

To enjoy the benefits of Google Adwords, you will require a website to direct your customers to. If you’re looking to take the next step into digital marketing, we can help you build your own website! All Contractor Weekly subscribers will benefit from a 25% discount and as an alternative, we can build your site for you at a discounted rate. I switched over to QAccounting a few months ago and haven't looked back. I get to speak to my own client manager and accountant, the prices were the best I had seen, and I paid exactly what it said online (no extra costs). Very happy with QA.
