RTI: No Cause for Alarm

HMRC on verge of issuing RTI penalty letters

Employers that have not sent in Real Time Information (RTI) returns or payments for the current tax year by 19th July will be issued with penalty letters.

HMRC have however said that, “No one should be unnecessarily worried by receipt of one of these letters, these are penalty warning letters and the purpose is to remind employers that they should submit their return and pay HMRC in full as soon as possible.”

Whilst HMRC are allowing employers time to adjust to the PAYE reformation and won't be implementing late payment and late filing penalties until April 2014, failure to pay in full and submit the necessary returns during this tax year could result in a penalty being imposed after 5th April 2014.

Although the Revenue have carried out a number of checks to ensure that the reminder letters are only sent out to defaulting employers they cannot give any assurances that no letters will be sent in error.

I switched over to QAccounting a few months ago and haven't looked back. I get to speak to my own client manager and accountant, the prices were the best I had seen, and I paid exactly what it said online (no extra costs). Very happy with QA.
