HMRC has added a VAT view liabilities and payments feature to the Business Tax Dashboard (BTD) and VAT Online Services.
The BTD is an online service aimed at smaller businesses. To use it a business must have enrolled to use either HMRC’s Corporation Tax or Self Assessment online service before they can set up a dashboard. The dashboard can then be used to see the tax position of a business across different business taxes as it brings together information from that businesses HMRC online services.
A business will be able to see either Corporation Tax or Self Assessment information as well as VAT and PAYE for employers, provided those online services have been set up. The BTD will display the overall position for each tax as well as more detailed information, such as any;
- tax arrears
- tax repayments
- payments made
- interest on late payments
- penalties incurred
- direct debit payment plans
Periods covered by BTD
The dashboard can be used to view information as follows:
- Corporation Tax – information for accounting periods from 1st October 1993 onwards
- Self Assessment – information for the tax year 1996/97 onwards
- PAYE for employers – information for the tax year 2010/11 onwards
- VAT – information for the current date and previous 15 months
A BTD may not be appropriate for those businesses that prefer to manage their liabilities for each tax separately or group companies.
If a business does not use a BTD they can still see their position separately for each tax using the relevant HMRC online service.
The BTD option isn’t currently available to agents of businesses but administrator access can be given to other people that a business wants to use the dashboard.
To set up a BTD visit the Setting Up and using a Business Tax Dashboard page on the HMRC website and follow the instructions.
