Tribunal Cases on the Up

More tax disputes going to litigation

The number of disputes being heard by Tax Tribunals has created a record number of outstanding cases.

In 2012/13 there were 27,000 outstanding First Tier Tax Tribunal cases, double the number from 2009/10.

According to the Financial Times, of the 1,395 cases heard in 2009/10 HMRC won two-thirds of them.

HMRC deny, however, that there was a backlog, arguing that many cases were linked and settled before the actual hearing date.

The Revenue hope that the recently introduced Alternative Dispute Resolution Service will help reduce the number of cases progressing to Tribunal.

I switched over to QAccounting a few months ago and haven't looked back. I get to speak to my own client manager and accountant, the prices were the best I had seen, and I paid exactly what it said online (no extra costs). Very happy with QA.
