War of the Smartwatches

smartwatch

The idea of the smart watch has been around for a far few years now, if you remember Captain Kirk used to speak into his watch. But after some digging about it turns out that detective Dick Tracy used a watch back in the 1930s as a kind of two-way radio. So the idea of smart watch dates back more than 80 years.

Why should I get a Smartwatch?

Well that is a very good question. Why would you get a smartwatch? Well if you have the same problem as me, when working or out and about you are constantly getting notifications through your phone. The advantage of having a smartwatch is that you can get alerts to your watch without looking at your phone. This way it doesn’t look like you are bored or being rude, you can just have a quick look at the watch.

A good advantage of most of the watches is that you can change the face of the watch; if you are fed up with looking at the same watch face then change it up with the many faces on them. It’s as easy as that.

They may be a bit expensive but, these are the same price if not cheaper than most of your nice classic watches but they do a lot more. They have the ability to check the time like your current watch, so I suppose that isn’t an extra feature but you are able to download plenty of apps such as weather forecasts or those which can give you sports updates.

The vast majority of these watches are used for sports, they can track heart rate and other exercising statistics for you to use.

Problems?

One problem I can foresee is the battery life problem. Pebble boast watches with a 7-day battery life. However the majority of the watches out there have a battery life of around two days if that, which could be a bit of a pain for people having to charge their watch regularly.

Another is the price; nobody will want to pay a large amount of money for a smartwatch. As more and more features come out and maybe additions to the watches it could increase the price of them.

Who’s out there?

There are many smartwatches out there and there are more to come. The big players currently are Pebble, LG, Samsung and Moto. The Apple watch, which is to be released in the coming months, is set to be the most anticipated smartwatch. It will have the clean look, which all Apple products have. Apple have been sitting back and watching what everyone else has been doing and is making an attempt to do things better. Correct what others did wrong. The question is will it work? We will soon find out…

I switched over to QAccounting a few months ago and haven't looked back. I get to speak to my own client manager and accountant, the prices were the best I had seen, and I paid exactly what it said online (no extra costs). Very happy with QA.
