It’s a Record

More people beat tax return deadline

More than 10 million Self Assessment Tax Returns were filed before the 31st January deadline beating the previous year’s tally of 9.61 million, HMRC has revealed.

The record for the number of returns filed over the internet was also broken, with 8.48 million being sent online compared to 7.93 million the previous year. This represents 84.5% of all returns received.

A total of 10.74 million 2013 tax returns were due by 31st January 2013, meaning that 93.4% met the deadline – the highest percentage ever recorded.

Probably not surprisingly, 31st January was the busiest day for internet filing when HMRC received 569,847 returns. The busiest hour occurred the same day, between 16:00 – 17:00, when 45,706 returns were lodged – an average of 12 per second.

Those that left it to the final hour numbered 21,027. The writer was not one of these!

I switched over to QAccounting a few months ago and haven't looked back. I get to speak to my own client manager and accountant, the prices were the best I had seen, and I paid exactly what it said online (no extra costs). Very happy with QA.
