Apple last week announced the tragic news that Steve Jobs had lost his long battle with pancreatic cancer. The technological world has lost one of its greatest innovators and characters.
Jobs, co-founder and chief executive of Apple inc. and previously CEO at Pixar studios, leaves behind a phenemonal legacy, and has changed the face of technology perhaps more so than anybody else.
Born in San Francisco in February 1955, Jobs became a household name upon his development of the Apple brand, and is credited with developing revolutionary software such as the iPod, iPad and the Apple Mac computer. Also whilst working for pixar, Jobs contributed to numerous high profile films, including the Toy Story series, Monsters Inc., A Bugs Life, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles.
It was only a few weeks ago that Contractor Weekly posted an article on Jobs’ stepping down from his position at Apple, and his death has deeply affected the technology world, with thousands and thousands of tributes and condolences posted across websites and social networking, as well as in the media and news channels across the world. Shrines have even appeared outside Apple stores worldwide, and Jobs’ influence and legacy has been evident since his tragic passing.
Apple released the following statement regarding Steve Jobs’ death: ‘We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today. Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.’
Steve Jobs leaves behind a wife, Laurene, and four children, as well as a legacy unlikely to be matched in the technology world in the near future.
