How do you usually find contracts?
Word of mouth and professional networks. I haven't had to need the services of an agent in the last 8 years.

Have you got any advice for first time contractors?
Don't think it's an easy life. Money may be better than permanent roles buts gaps between jobs and lack of holiday / sick pay can eat into that income. Be good with financials you'll have VAT and corporation tax to budget for, a good accountant can help.

Have you got any helpful hints & tips for being a successful contractor/freelancer?
Enjoy what you're doing this will motivate you. Build and maintain a network of colleagues you work with. Beware clients who want to use an interview as an opportunity for some free consultancy.

I switched over to QAccounting a few months ago and haven't looked back. I get to speak to my own client manager and accountant, the prices were the best I had seen, and I paid exactly what it said online (no extra costs). Very happy with QA.
