Atari are offering Android users the chance to rekindle their love affair with a range of classic retro computer games.
The games that the company started to develop in the 70’s and that have become computing cult classics, will now be available to purchase on the Android Application after selling successfully on iTunes.
Atari is responsible for classic arcade and computer games such as Pong, Asteroids and Crystal Castles, as well as many more, and it is hoped that the games, which have designed to be as close to the originals as possible, will be hugely popular.
100 of Atari’s retro classics will be available to download, some for free, but the majority for less than £1, and all 100 can be purchased together for £10. Other classics such as Centipede and Star Raiders will also be available for download.
Atari started in 1972 and its first major breakthrough into the computer gaming world was the brilliant ‘Pong’. From humble beginnings in California, its collection of games soon spread worldwide with computer technology becoming more and more widespread.
The limitations of the initial technology saw the birth of a range of highly addictive yet simplistic games, and the new introduction of the Android application may well ensure that future generations will be playing this range of games too.
