Problems with online service provokes lengthening of deadline
Problems with HMRC’s new online service issuing relevant i-forms that prevented employers from filing P9D, P11D and P11D by 6th July has caused HMRC to extend the deadline to 4th August.
If the forms are filed by 4th August HMRC will be satisfied that those affected employers have a reasonable excuse and therefore any late filing penalty will be revoked. However, once employers receive a penalty notice they will have to write to Customer Operations Employer Office, Room BP4009, Chillingham House, Benton Park View, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE98 1ZZ, to explain that they were prevented from filing on time because of the new online service. Penalties cannot be cancelled over the telephone.
Ordinarily where form P11D(b) has not been received by 19 July, HMRC will write to an employer advising that a penalty may already have been incurred and that the forms must be submitted by 6 August to avoid further penalties.
It should be noted that this concession only applies to those employers using i-forms to complete their P9D’s and P11D’s.
